Robert Girard

Robert A. Girard Age 85 Iron River, MIDied Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Northstar Health System, Iron River. Born: June 17, 1925 in Vulcan, MI The son of the late Jeffrey and Flossie (Moger) Girard attended the Palatka and Stambaugh Schools. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII. Robert married the former Cleo Rhino on July 12, 1952 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Gaastra, where the couple made their home. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2002. Cleo preceded him in death in 2005. Robert worked in the local mines for 18 years until the mines here closed. He then attended Bay De Noc Community College and received his Licensed Practical Nurse certification. He was employed for over 20 years at the Iron County General Hospital, Iron River, retiring in 1986. Robert was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian after the closure of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Gaastra. He was also a member of the American Legion and VFW. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and bowling. He looked forward to his trips to the casino. He is survived by his son, Terry (Judy) Girard of Iron River Daughter, Carmen (Donald) Kataja of Iron River Four grandchildren; Abby and Jesse Girard Becky and Scott Kataja Many nieces and nephews Special friend, Eleanor Turcotte He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Gerald Girard. Visitation: Friday, February 25, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River Memorial Service: Friday, February 25, 2011 at 1p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River, with Rev. Norman Clisch to officiate.The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the service.
