Erwin E. Herzberg Age 85 Iron River, MIPassed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at his home. Born: November 3, 1925 in Paynesville, MN The son of the late Otto and Alvina (Baumann) Herzberg attended the Paynesville schools. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII, from 1943 to 1946. He then enlisted with the U.S. Army in 1947, served during the Korea War and retired as Sgt. First Class in 1965. Erwin married the former Maria Stroske in Berlin, Germany on March 29, 1952, and the couple first settled in St. Paul, MN. After retirement in 1965, they moved from Junction City, Kansas to make their home in Iron River. Maria preceded him in death on February 8, 1997. He was a member of the St. Agnes Church and the American Legion Alfred Branchini Post #17 of Iron River. He was also preceded in death by eight brothers, Elmer, Harold, Clifford, Norman, Edwin, Rainholdt, Oliver, and Gordon, and two sisters, Mable and Adeline. He is survived by his son, Rainer Herzberg of Crystal Falls Two brothers; Nobel (Marge) Herzberg of Eugene, OR Arthur (Peggy) Herzberg of St. Paul, MN Two sisters; Marcella (Vern) Frank of Paynesville, MN Evelyn Smith of Susquehanna, PA Two grandchildren, Scott Herzberg Kimberly Wilcox Five great grandchildren; Jacob, Tyler and Cole Herzberg Noah and Lily Wilcox Nieces, nephews and extended family Graveside services and interment will be held Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 12:15 p.m. at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN, with Rev.
