Elmer "Merlin" Lindstrom Age 83 Iron River, MIDied Friday, January 28, 2011 at his home. Born: December 7, 1927 in Iron River, MI The son of the late Elmer and Adeline (Westerlund) Lindstrom attended the Iron River Schools, playing high school football for the Iron River Redskins, and graduating from Iron River High School in 1945. Following graduation, he attended Electrical Trade School. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of WWII. He was employed by M.A. Hanna Mining Company as an electrician in the local mines, retiring in 1981 when the mines closed. Merlin married the former Lucy Rivard on May 27, 1950 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. In 1953, he began to build their home in Stambaugh Township. They raised five daughters with solid values and sent all of their girls to college. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2010. Merlin cherished family time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was supportive of family, helping his children and grandchildren any time and any where. He also enjoyed traveling. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Oliver, Earl and Robert Lindstrom, and sister, Ethel Singular. He is survived by his wife, Lucy Daughters; Celeste (Jim) Tatsch of Green Bay, WI Dr. Lorene Lindstrom (Allan Goodman) of Iron River Patricia O'Donnell of Iron River Cindy (David) Pestrue of Florence, WI Lori Lindstrom of Detroit, MI Brother, Ainer (Sue) Lindstrom of Woodruff, WI Nine grandchildren Nieces, nephews and extended family Visitation: Tuesday, February 1, 2011 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Funeral Service: Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River, with Rev. Norman Clisch to officiate. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the service.
