Edward "Ed" H. Yackel Age 92 Iron River, MIDied Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Northstar Health System, Iron River. He was born May 1, 1919 in Iron River, Michigan, the son of William and Mary (Przybylski) Yackel. Ed married the former Lucille "Lou" Duff on December 11, 1942 in Iron River and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in 2010. As a young man he worked in various logging camps. He then was employed at Bengal, Cannon, Hiawatha, and Homer-Wauseca Mines for 19 years until his mine disability. He worked as a shovel operator, hoistman, miner, trucker, and all around repair. He was also a hobby farmer. He and his wife were foster parents from 1959-1968 for Iron, Gogebic, and Ontonagon Counties. Ed will be remembered for always lending a helping hand to those who needed it. He enjoyed working in his garden and tending to his pets and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father Edward A. Yackel; brothers William, Henry, Fredrick and Irving; sister Helen; grandson Andrew Yackel and great granddaughter Alison Lambert. He is survived by his wife Lou Sons Eugene, Dennis (Jan), and Edwin Yackel Daughters; Susan (Daniel) Passamani and Krissy (David) Gustafson Seven grandchildren; Edward, Michael (Joni), and Kyle (Fiancee Elsa) Yackel, Carla (Oliver) Grossman, Katie (Michael) Dvorscak, Nicole (Jeff) Lambert and Erik Smith Five great grandchildren; Carver Grossman, Bradley and Daniel Yackel, Charlotte Dvorscak, and Mia Lambert Seven step-grandchildren, twelve step-great grandchildren, and three step-great, great grandchildren Three sisters; Katherine Kempisty, Rose Seymour, and Virginia (Robert) Rucinski Special family friend, Norman Vierela of Republic, MI Special caring friend, Cynthia Yackel of Marquette, MI Nieces, nephews and cousins The family is appreciative of the caregiving services provided by Sara Kirkpatrick and Cathy Sjostrom. There will be no visitation. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Bates Township Cemetery, Iron River.
