Edmond "Ed" W. Baker Age 93 Iron River, MIDied Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the Iron River Care Center. Born: January 14, 1918 in Stambaugh, MI The son of the late Neil and Hilma (Greenlund) Baker attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating with the Class of 1936. His father started the "Baker G. Store" in 1928, changing the name to "Baker Brothers Grocery" in 1947. Ed worked at the store from youth until the age of 59. The store closed in 1977 after 49 years upon his brother Earl's retirement. Ed married the former Frances Kumenius on January 16, 1943 at the parsonage of First Covenant Church in Stambaugh, and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in 2007. Frances preceded him in death on February 16, 2007 Ed was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of, Iron River. After love of family and friends, his passion was for sports. He played softball, hockey, tennis, golf and bocce ball in the Duke d'Abruzzi league. He loved movies and T.V. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Earl and Roy Baker and sister, Alice Baker-Russo. He is survived by his son, Robert (Louise) Baker of Shelby Two.
