Bruce Maki

Bruce "Simon" Maki Age 62 Iron River, MI Died Tuesday, September 20, 2011 unexpectedly at Aurora BayCare Medical Center, Green Bay, WI. He was born April 13, 1949 in Stambaugh, MI. He is the son of the late Simon and Elsie (Hautala) Maki. He attended the Iron River Schools, graduating from Iron River High School. Following graduation, he attended technical college for his diesel mechanic certification. Auto Value of Iron River employed him for the last nine years. Simon married the former Jean Grant on October 10, 1981 and the couple made their home in Iron River. Simon raised their son Christopher to enjoy the outdoors. He especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and time together with family and his friends at the Legion and VFW. Simon was a member of the Son's of the Legion Stambaugh Legion Post #21, and Senior Vice President of VFW Men's Auxiliary Post #3134. He was preceded in death by son Christopher Grant of Iron River, brother Wade Maki of Iron River, and his parents Simon and Elsie (Hautala) Maki of Iron River. He is survived by his wife, Jean (Grant) of Iron River Granddaughter, Olivia Grant of Portsmouth, VA Sister, Donna (Maki) Sayre of Iron River Mother-in-Law, Barbara (Bob) Goodman of Falls City, OR Sisters-in-Law, Janet (Dale) Melstrom of Beechwood, MI JoAnne (Mark) Begres of Gaastra, MI Kathy Grant of Iron River Brothers-in-Law, Ed (Loretta) Grant, Phelps, WI Ken Grant (Shirley Hardes) of Iron River Robert Grant of Chicago, IL Mike (Mary Jo Popko) Grant of Negaunee, MI Simon was a teddy bear and was beloved by all, especially his numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Visitation: Monday, September 26, 2011 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Iron River. Memorial Service: Monday, September26, 2011 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Iron River with Rev. Howard Neider to officiate. Interment: Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River.
