Alvin "Al" Dominici Age 94 Iron River, MIDied Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Northstar Health System, Iron River. Born: October 6, 1916 in Iron River, MI The son of the late Secundo and Ida (Toti) Dominici attended the Iron River Schools and graduated. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater ribbon with four Bronze Stars, the Bronze Service Arrowhead, three Overseas Service Bars, Purple Heart Medal and Bronze Star Medal. In the service, everyone was called by a nickname and he was called "Don Ameche." He returned home in 1945 and considered himself one of the lucky ones that got back home. Al married the former Sally Drake on January 21, 1948 in Iron River, and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. The couple owned and operated Al's and Sal's Cocktail Lounge in Iron River for many years prior to Al's retirement in 1985. Al was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, America Legion Alfred Branchini Post #17, VFW Ottawa Post #3134, the Order of the Purple Heart, the Elks Lodge of Iron River, and former member of the Iron River Country Club. An avid sports enthusiast, he enjoyed golfing and sponsored many sports teams and events. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally on January 24, 1976, and sisters Evelyn Vantaggi, Ann Windsor, and Henrietta Ramberg. He is survived by his sons; Dane (Lorrie) Dominici of Saline, MI Don Jim Dominici of Iron River Darren Dominici of Iron River Daughter, Debbie (Vernon) Jones of Crystal Falls Sister, Eva Rizzardi of Iron River Seven grandchildren; Tammy, Billy, Matt, Drake, Dru, Lexi and Alyssa Six great grandchildren; Trey, Gavin, Hannah, Tylina, Ian and Anna Special partner of 35 years, Karen Polley Visitation: Wednesday, June 8th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, June 9th from 9:00 to 11:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Funeral Service: Thursday, June 9th at 12:00 noon at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River, with Rev. Norman Clisch, Pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
