Adele Baker

Adele Mary Baker Age 88 of Caspian, MI passed away Monday, March 26, 2012 at Northstar Health System, Iron River, MI. Adele was born March 14, 1924 in Daggett, MI to the late Albert and Sofia (Palka) Gondek. She attended the Daggett Schools, graduating from Daggett High School, and then attended St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN for her Bachelors Degree in Education. On July 31, 1954, Adele married Frank "Bo" Baker, Jr. at St. Frederick’s Catholic Church in Daggett and the couple made their home in Caspian. They celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary in 1994. Frank preceded her in death on April 20, 1995. Adele was an elementary teacher for West Iron County Schools for many years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, St. Ann's Society, and was the first woman Commissioner for the City of Caspian. She also served on the Caspian Community Center Board of Directors, and was a leader for the Caspianettes 4-H Club. Adele enjoyed traveling, reading, playing cribbage and bridge, sewing, quilting and especially loved hummingbirds. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Gisele “Gigi” in 2008; brothers Fr Joseph Gondek, Frank, Stanley, Tony, Thad, Alphonse, and Erwin; sisters, Jean Tako and Sister Maria Regina Mundi. She is survived by one son, Frank Baker of Denver, CO Four daughters, Marquette Baker of Iron River Denise (Darrell) Johnson of Suamico, WI Renee (Daniel) Greig of Suamico, WI Claudene (David) Tomlinson of Sobieski, WI Brothers, Walter (Betty) Gondek of Brookfield, WI Leonard (Kathy) Gondek of Oregon Eight grandchildren, Ashley Mann, Brendan Townsend, Noah Greig, Isaac Greig, Austin Baker, Colin Johnson, Taylor Johnson, and Aubrey Johnson Three great grandchildren, Kaleb Hall, Macy Hall and Levi Greig Numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and special friend, Maime Sawicki The family would like to thank the staff at the Iron County Medical Care Facility and Northstar Health System and Dr. Robert Han for their tender loving care. Visitation: Monday, April 2, 2012 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Funeral Service: Monday, April 2, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Caspian with Rev. Gregory Veneklase, Pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The Ladies of St. Ann's Society will form an Honor Guard at the service. Interment: Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River Funeral arrangements were by the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River.
